Eyeliner Art

I had wantd to make a post on eyeliner, especially eyeliner doodles for a long time., mainly because you see more and more of it, and it is often done very badly, ruining an otherwise very good outfit.

Let's start with an example

.

For her, the first thing that comes to mind is the blouse, which is much too low-cut. Normally, I think a blouse should cover at least up to where she drew the heart on her chest. With this blouse that she is wearing, a white t'shirt, possibly with some lace around the neck, would have made the outfit much more  appropriate.

As for the eyeliner doodles, I don't think they have a place with this outfit at all. It is clear that she was going for something Emilie Autumn-like, however, one must remember that Emilie Autumn, as well as Mana Sama, Marilyn Manson and plenty of others whose style you may want to copy have hours to spend on their makeup, not to mention a professional stylist. Theefore, it is unrealistic to try to copy their style at home and expect the same result, not to mention that such styles do not suit everyone.

However, I think her glove, bow and hairstyle are pretty good, although a white bow maybe would have matched the outfir better. In short, this will look good if she wears a t-shirt or a diffrent blouse and wipes off the eyeliner doodles. With makeup, remember to be simple if you ar not sure what to do.

Here we don't really see her hair, outfit, or even the rest of her face so there is only the eyeliner to talk about.
In eyeliner doodles, spider webs are often a popular design, however they must be drawn well, and not overdone. The key withg eyeliner is not to overdo it, and most of all to be neat! The smudges on her face, as well as the rubbed-off parts ruin the design.
Here is a good example how eyeliner doodles should be if they are to be made. Remember that even in this case, it is a look for a party or to go to a club, not everyday work or school:

Your Guide to What NOT To Wear

You see people wearing clothes that don't suit them almost every day. One must remember to wear something not simply because it has fashion but because it looks good on them. Here are some tips on what to do if you are not sure:

1)Hairstyle:

This is not the best hairstyle choice. The spikes at the back, although they probably took a long time to make, look out of place and overdone. The white hairclip at the front in my opinion is also out of place and looks much too big. My suggestion for this person would be to simply wear her hair down, maybe with bangs. The bright color looks very striking already and something as fancy as what she has right now looks
like simply too much.



This hairstyle here so much better. It looks like the person took a lots of time and effort to make it which is good. Unlike the first example this is tight for the person's face shape. And remember, dear friends: if yoyu are not sure, always go for a more natural look!

2) Gothic Clothes:


Unfortunately, both of these outfits are not very good fashion choices. Both of them were clearly going for a victorian or neo-victorian style, but they did not quite know what to do. The girl on the left is wearing a nice skirt, and her gloves are kind of neat. However, the outfit would have looked much better with a blouse or cutsew indtead of a t-shirt and maybe with diffrent shoes, like Tea Party shoes or even simple high-heel boots. Her hair also would have looked better if she got bangs and maybe curled it.
The second girl's outfit gas mostly the same problems, but she also fell into the trap of cheap fabric and lace. Although the design is for sure creative, something in better quality, even if simpler, would have been a great improvement.




This is a much better outfit. The dress and the hat look very nice, and she also is wearing lace gloves. This is a good example of how simple sometimes can look much better then more fancy. Great job!


3) Makeup:


This makeup style suits very few people, and unfortunately this girl is not one of them. Such looks should be saved for visual kei artists and only on stage. In real life, something much simpler and more natural look would be better.

For most styles like lolita and fairy-kei, natural makeup is usually the best choice. When not sure, always go for the simpler look. Always make sure your makeup is applied neatly: there are few things worse then wearing sloppy makeup!

4) Body Type


You must always remember to wear clothes that suit yur body type, especially if you are plus-size. Some clothes look good on one body type and bad on another, and this is normal. In the case above, a more poofy skirt (more petticoat) and a cutsew or blouse instead of the t-shirt. A ponytail is also not the best hairstyle here, but I talked about that already.




This is much better idea. The shape of the hairstyle and the dress are very flattering.

Fairy Kei Tips

Fairy-kei is a candy-coated, marshmallow rainbow-covered delicious arrival in Japanese fashion. As Miseducated and SPANK! often do, it features the cute characters and motifs of the 80s: My Little Pony, Care Bears, Popples, Barbie, etc. The palettes favored seem to be all soft, light hues of the 80s marshmallow rainbow. Fairy-kei uses as many as 6 colors in an outfit, but don’t be too hasty with color — make sure that each of the colors balance each other out. Colors you use should be used at least one other time in the outfit, usually, to add icing on the cake and to tie it all together. Think bows, beads, accessories and pompoms.

 Look through any old stuff you kept or stored and see what treasures you can find! It’s like new but has more meaning attached. If you can’t find any try ebay, flea markets and thrift stores for marshmallow rainbow 80s goods.

Found some cute 80s fabric but the item is shot? Patch it onto a tee, add some glitter. Don’t wait for your favorite new t-shirt, make it!

Tutus! They’re easy to find these days and very easy to make. You can make your tutu as simple or as decadent as you like; they’re all sweet when paired with a tee.

Pompons, bows, tulle — all in the marshmallow rainbow of fairy-kei — think of making yarn into large pompons for hair and keychains, smaller ones for other accessories

A big pastel sweater with an alternating color of hair bow. Think big and ridiculously cute! Keep it simple if you like with a black tutu and flats, you can be Fairy-kei inspired without going over the top.

Hunt up bright candy colored socks, try Socks Dreams.

A lot of fairy-kei is making your own pieces. Vintage fabrics can be turned into dresses, skirts, etc.

Tiny plushies or keychains in your favorite style look sweet pinned on big, slouchy candy-colored hobo bags.

Look around ordinary mall stores like Charlotte Russe or Forever 21 for accessories or even t-shirts. Just keep a focus on the color palette and general motifs to know what’s useful. I found my My Little Pony shirt from delia’s for only $12!

For fusion fairy-kei lolita, it’s important to keep the bell-shaped silhouette. You can buy skirts with the right color schemes, like Angelic Pretty’s Colorful Hearts, or you can make your own. Usually over-the-top sweet items are a good base for fairy-kei fusion, simple appliques, or polka dots.

Go vintage shopping for things like 80s childrens’ sweatshirts or crazy hairbows and headbands. You can also look on eBay or 80s_cuties on Livejournal. Some Japanese shops for cute things like Doki Doki 6% and Chocomint can have fairy-kei type things too.

Bodyline Knock-offs

The Good Knock-offs

These Bodyline replicas are actually very cute. They seem to be made of good quality materials and either look just like the originals, or are changed a bit but still look pretty damned good.

Originally an Angelic Pretty coat, Bodyline makes a pretty faithful replica. The hearts are moved up a bit, I think in order to be pockets.

Aah shoe replicas. Unless a pair of shoes are made out of leather, I won't spend 100+ on them. No injection molded pleater shoe is ever going to be worth much to me. Brand or not, they are cheaply made, and they should be cheap. Bodyline's knock-off of these famous Baby, the Stars Shine Bright shoes are nearly identical.

Don't confuse this Innocent World knock-off with a "bad" knock-off just because it uses the same fabric. Not all brand dresses custom print their own fabric, but instead buy it from a fabric shop. The fabric used in this Bodyline knock-off is almost gaurenteed to be the exact same fabric as the brand version. Metamorphose, and I think a couple indies brands, have also used this same fabric.

Originally an Atelier Boz JSK, Bodyline makes a pretty good copy. As is typical of Bodyline knock-offs, it doesn't look like it has much poof. Maybe they just don't use a very poofy petticoat, or maybe, as a cheaper version, skimp on the skirt yardage a bit.

An oldie but a goody! This was a skirt Bodyline used to sell years ago, and it's a knock-off of an old Angelic Pretty skirt. The lace is a bit cheaper the the original, and the bow looks a little deflated, but other than that, it looks cute to me.

The "Bad" Knock-offs

These are the knock-offs that make people the most upset, print knock-offs. While Bodyline has never made a knock-off with the original brand's logo on the print, they are still not fooling anyone.

No one ever bothers to mention this print when they talk about Bodyline knock-offs. Originally an Angelic Pretty print, Bodyline edits out the "Angelic Pretty" and turns it into a simple JSK.

Another, bit more recent, print originally from Innocent World that is often forgotten about when people talk about the evils of Bodyline. It was released along side the Fruits Parlor skirt, but hardly gets any attention. Once again, "Innocent World" is edited out of knock-off and replaced by a little bow.

Probably the most infamous Bodyline Knock-off, and the one that caused some uproar on EGL, Angelic Pretty's Fruits Parlor. The Angelic Pretty version, when it bothered to pop up for sale, would often go for hundreds of dollars more than it's original price on the second hand market. Owning this fruit covered stripe and polkadot extravaganza from Angelic Pretty was a status symbol, no doubt about it. Then Bodyline released a version for $50, the skirt was sold as low as $11. And soon everyone had the skirt (which I promise you is not as fugly as the dress) in every colorway Bodyline Sold it in.

Goth With VERY Short Hair?

I know several people who faced this problem: first they get a really short haircut then either it doesn't look good or they get tired of it. Or it "doesn't go" with their choice of outfits and makeup. Then what do you do? Here are some tips:

1) Look for hairclips or headbands. A nice hairclip can instantly change a hairstyle. I would try a store like Claire's or Ardene's because they are both inexpensive and hace good quality stuff.

2) Get an INTRESTING short haircut as opposed to a boring one. Maybe even something like this:


3) Dye your hair another color. A change of color changes the appearance of a hairstyle very much.

4) Put on your favorite Sweet Lolita dress and a nice bow, turn your CD player on max volume and forget about it. My favorite way to solve problems actually, it works somewhat like this:

Choosing Names

For many, joining a subculture is like starting a new life. Many want a name that means something to them, rather then what their parents chose. Some, like me, had names that no one could pronounce or spell, which is annoying I must say.
And there are thousands of names to choose from. So how do you choose, and, how do you introduce the name to your friends and relatives?

Для многих, присоединившись к  субкультуре является началом новой жизни. Многие хотят имя, которое означает что-то для них, а не то, что их родители выбрали. Некоторые, как и я, имели имена, которые никто не мог произносить , что, я должен сказать.  раздражает.

1)Some names are either much too common, much too crazy or just very nerdy sounding. Avoid these, as well as about 99% of what online goth-name generators give you. And please, please no "Deathmaster" or the like! It is goth, not video games!
) Некоторые имена являются либо чересчур общие, слишком странным или просто очень глупо звучание. Избегайте таких, а также около 99% того, что онлайн имя генераторы дают вам. И, пожалуйста, пожалуйста, нет "Deathmaster" и т.п.! Это имена, а не видео-игр!

2)Look at names from diffrent cultures, or even words from other lainguages. For example, Kismet is a Turkish name meaning destiny.

3) Think about your last name. If you like yours try to find a name that goes well with it. If you don't, you could be like me or Invader Zim or Johnny the homicidal maniac and simply not have a last name.
